Chimney and Fireplace Safety

It’s that time of year again!  With temperatures dropping, families–mine included–are enjoying their first fires of the year.

It’s easy to get lost in the magic of a crackling fire or comforting warmth of a wood stove – and who wouldn’t? But before you kick back and relax, it’s important to take the necessary steps to ensure you and your family can enjoy your indoor fires safely.  If you have a fireplace, please have it cleaned before you use it. 

Consider these statistics from the U.S. Fire Administration:

• In 2018, there were an estimated 379,600 residential building fires causing more than $8 billion in damage and losses.
• 2,790 civilians died and an additional 11,525 were injured as a result.

Nothing is more comforting than peace-of-mind. Stay safe as you enjoy your fireplace this holiday season!
